Our Mission
The Jewish Learning Collective of Manchester (JLCM) aims to develop our children’s Jewish identities and deepens their sense of community as members of Am Yisrael. Through our curriculum and educational programs, our children learn about and experience Jewish values, rituals, and traditions. We envision our students drawing meaning, happiness, and comfort from their community as they live joyful Jewish lives and build an appreciation for life-long learning.
Who We Are
Formed through the partnership of Manchester’s Temple Israel and Temple Adath Yeshurun, JLCM is dedicated to cultivating a meaningful and enduring Jewish experience for children and their families across the Greater Manchester area. As members of Am Yisrael, we each connect to our Judaism differently, and those connections may continue to evolve over our lifetime. We have an inclusive environment, and we welcome families from all streams of Jewish life regardless of whether you are affiliated with a synagogue.
Curriculum
Learning how our ancient heritage is related to our modern lives is fun and meaningful! Children will enjoy learning through a dynamic curriculum guided by enthusiastic teachers. We teach our children how to foster meaningful relationships with Judaism, with G!d, with their community, and with each other.
Through many teaching modes, including project-based experiences, our blend of Judaica and Hebrew language learning creates a joyful education environment.
A Shared Commitment to Education
The combined greater community of our two shuls has a deep passion for Jewish education. We’re committed to ensuring our children grow up with a sense of Jewish identity and are engaged in their community. Jewish education is essential for the future of our community, and it plays a critical role in shaping the next generation of Jewish leaders, thinkers, and decision makers. We’re empowering them to become knowledgeable and engaged members of our Manchester Jewish community.
Not only are we transmitting our traditions & culture; we are also conveying important values and giving our children a sense of belonging. Jewish education teaches our children to appreciate the richness and diversity of our heritage, and to find their own place within that Jewish story. We help them develop a strong sense of resilience and purpose for their lives. Our education program is accessible, inclusive, and engaging, because it should inspire our children to become active participants in the Jewish community.
There are some differences in the movements between our two shuls, and this gives our shared community the privilege to see how our tradition is both very modern and very rich. We are united in our co-operation to provide our children with a meaningful Jewish education. We achieve this through a combination of classroom instruction, experiential learning, and community-based programs. Having a combined community with this education model fosters a love of learning, a sense of community, but also shows our children meaningful examples of unity, cooperation & greater community engagement.
The goal is for our children grow up to become knowledgeable, compassionate, and engaged members of the Jewish community, who are equipped to make a positive impact in the world. The education we give our children transforms them into the next successful generation, and so it plays a critical role in shaping our future community. We are thrilled to work together to promote Jewish education and to inspire a love of learning in our children.
By prioritizing local combined Jewish education, we can help create a brighter future for our community, and ensure that the next generation is equipped to thrive and make a meaningful contribution to the world.
